Okay, I have a concern with my silkie pullet. She's about 10 months old now and has been laying for about 3 months. She has started within the last two weeks of having really runny and stinky poop. I didn't think much of it at first and figured she needed some probiotics and I've been top dressing her feed with probiotics for about 2 weeks now off and on. So far, no change! Now her bottom is dirty because it's sticking to her. I'm at a loss. She used to lay an egg every other day to every 3 days, and now it seems like she's laying an egg every single day, too. She doesn't seem to be acting much different, except that she is trying to go broody every now and then. When I change her to different pens or move her, it seems to stop it for a few days, then she tries again. And through it all, this sudden change in consistency of her poop is persistant. Any guesses what is going on? She's not getting any more greens than usual-- just a handful of grass each day, BOSS, and her layer crumbles. Could I be feeding her too much BOSS?? (black oil sunflower seeds) She has really packed on some weight and is a LOT heavier now. In fact, I might call her fat. I've checked her over for mites, lice, and there are none. I recently dusted her not too long ago anyway. Please, any ideas would be appreciated.

hmmm have you wormed her? You may also want to try doing and epsom salt flush. I think if you type it into the search engine you can find the dosage for a single hen.

No, I have not wormed her lately. I just have Wazine, do you think that is sufficient. I'll read up on the epsom salt flush. I do think I'll add that I do feed her a lot of BOSS a day. I top dress her feed and sprinkle it down on the ground for them to eat. She's always the one to growl at the others and bump everyone else out of the way for her BOSS. I think I'll stop feeding that to her for a week and see what happens and do the worming and check into the flush. Any other ideas??? I'm willing to consider anything.

That sounds good, but I wouldnt do it all at once! Their tummys need time to right themselves up again. I would try the epsom salt flush first and give her a bit then if that doesnt work, try the wazine.

Hmm.. I read about the Epsom salt flush and it says it's used as a Laxative for poultry. I don't think that is what she needs as she is already having really loose watery poop. I don't want to make it worse and dehydrate her. I think I'll forgo that one and try the worming. :)
