Runt Rescue- Mushy chick??

Let’s see… since she hatched at the hatchery, I’d say 5 days now. She starting to grow feathers, but the other chicks are towering over her xD
She doesnt look to tiny for 5 days. Do you know what breed some just mature slower...I am kinda going through the same thing a couple of weeks ago...I thought it was failure to thrive but were at 4 weeks and there both doing amazing

She’s a buff Orpington, compared to normal Buffy chicks, she’s definitely tiny. They thought she was a bantam chick at first 😭
That’s so good to hear! I thought that too- I still do! But she’s doing really well, finger crossed!
Awe that’s awesome to hear! I’ll definitely update when she hits the safe mark! I’m hoping she grows like a weed!
Did your chicks ever catch up in growth to the others??

Has he started to catch up in growth a bit?
That remains to be seen. He is like half their size BUT I hatched three different crosses and the others like him are smaller than the other two crosses, so it could also be that he will just be smaller for that reason as well. He’s slowly getting wing feathers but the rate is comparable to the others like him. As long as he’s eating and drinking and not being overly lethargic or hunched, I’m taking the position that he’ll be alright.

Edited to add a pic. Not the best shot but you can see how small he is, he’s not standing that far behind the one in the foreground.

Ohhh what a baby ; o ; He is itty bitty, so cute though!!

No, mine is definitely an Orp D: Same looks as the others, same behavior! They have in the past accidentally thrown in a random bantam to the mix but that definitely wasn’t the case here.

How’s your baby doing?

Well, she has not grown any bigger. No illness as far as I’ve seen, but she is growing really messed up looking wing feathers. She also doesn’t chirp, but sings like a songbird now which is a weird side note xD
I’m still not certain she’ll make it, but for now she’s as healthy as I can get her!

And that’s really all we can do! My guy hasn’t grown much either. He is feathering super slowly and is more lethargic than the others but he has this lively spirit about him. It’s sort of a failure to thrive situation but I’m not giving up on him yet. If I’m honest, I’m iffy on if he will pull through, it’s just hard to know how it will pan out with the ones that don’t start off strong. Keep us updated!
