rural internet in oklahoma?

well, neither provider in my area will provide internet at our address...is there a such thing as a provider for people in the country?? i have to admit, i will miss having internet if i cant find one!

We were able to get cable internet, but DSL was unavailabe to our area when we moved and we couldn't go back to dial-up

Have you considered satelite or that mobile device?

We live out in the boonies, where cable and dsl don't reach. We have two satellite dishes - one for Dish Network, one for Hughesnet.

is it true that with hughesnet, you cant play online games? my kids enjoy them on occasion but its not a huge priority.

It's the delay of the signal from satellite to receiver. I have a friend who managed to play regardless of it. Just have to be with a good group who will watch your back.

And yeah, Internet options in Rural Oklahoma really bite the big one. The max Dial-up connection I could get was 28.8K and that in and of itself cost me over $20 not including the cost of a land line.

I just got MiFi from Verizon.. it works great! you can have multiple computers on it and it's $59 a month. It allows you 5G of upload and download.. most won't use that much but if you are gaming you might.... you can try it out for 30 days to see and cancel it if doesnt work well for you or you are afraid of going over. I havent come close and I work full time from home. It's a little black card about as thick as a few credit cards. If you can get cell service , you should be able to get one of these. They also have USB air cards .. I liked the MiFi because I could have both my laptop and desktop hooked up to it at the same time.

I'm not in OK, but have rural internet issues too.

I have WildBlue (satellite). It's not the best, but it was my only option. The upload delays will definitely make it harder to play games, impossible though no.

One thing I warn anyone getting satellite internet is to make sure you know what your bandwidth limits are, and you keep an eye on your usage. Unlike cell phones (you pay a premium for overages), if you go over the limit they will slow your connection to near dial-up speeds until you fall back below the limit.

does wild blue have a bandwith limit? my son actually brought that up but i didnt think much of it.

Both wildblue and hugesnet have limits. If I remember correctly from when I got WB two years ago, WB's limits are higher than huges (thus why I choose them)

I started out on the cheapest plan, but since both of us work from home and use the internet at alarming rates, we upgraded to the pro plan. We now hover right around 65-70% of our limit.
