Rural internet service

I believe my brother uses "Hughes Net." It's an amazing difference for them after using dial-up. They are now able to have a wireless network in their house (so you can use the laptop from the couch) and can hook up my brother's video game systems to the Internet to play with people online.

I've never had the problem with being in "internet jail" with Hughes. Maybe it's the professional service? I download MP3's all the time.

We run much faster than dial-up. My anti-virus updates every day, and is usually downloading between 150-180 Kbps. We also run a wireless network in the house, for two desktops and a laptop, no troubles.

We do have days where the internet runs slow, but those are the heavy overcast days, but usually we still run faster than dial-up.

Dial-up isn't even an option for us, because our lines are run underground in a conduit from the nearest pole, approx. 1000 feet, and there's too much "noise" on the line. We can't hold the signal. DSL is probably *NEVER* coming out here, LOL. The closest fiberoptic box is over 2 miles away.

Good luck with what you decide.

My hubby and I got Verizon Voyagers with our tax money. You have to get the unlimited internet package with thhem. We love them. We get super fast internet too even though we live in the boonies where most people can't even get cell phone reception. I can't upload pics on here and have to use a real computer for that but otherwise it's the best moey we've spent on something totally frivolous.

We use xplornet satellite internet and it is Great! Usually 3 computers online at any one time and never a slow down. I don't know about other services but we can game over the system without issue.
