It’s day 20 for one of our silkie eggs, and he had *just* done his internal pip a couple of hours ago. An over enthusiastic sibling or mama rolled him and cracked/chipped open the egg right where a hairline crack had already started to do it on his own, but definitely before he seemed ready. I’ve moved him to the incubator with a warm moist paper towel tented over him to prevent any premature drying of membranes. Did I do the right thing? How often should I check the incubator?

It should be alright, are you saying you moved him from under a broody to the incubator? Just make sure the incubator stays at 65-75% humidity. It was probably fine to leave him under mama but I wouldn't move him back now as more drafts could cause shrink-wrapping. Do you have any pictures of the crack by the way?

I wouldn’t put a wet paper towel over him
Make sure humidity is 65 % and leave him be

Here’s the little guy. I did move him from under his mama because I wasn’t sure how well he could do without a humidity level I could monitor. He’s breathing just fine; my main concern is just keeping him as still as I can and his membrane as moist as I can until everything’s finishing absorbing and closing. Thanks for your quick response!
