I have a Russian Orloff chick who is about 9 wks old. She eats, drinks, poops normally and is very active and otherwise normal, but I've noticed for the past few weeks her tail leans sharply off to one side.

I checked her over to see if I could find a reason for it, and what I found is that the whole tail portion slants off to the right. There was a small tear in the skin near the base of a pin feather, but it did not appear to be infected and I think it could have been the result of the area being rubbed from the way the tail slants.

I also found a hard lump under the skin on top at the base of the tail on the right side. It's round and hard and isn't red or inflamed looking at all. I wasn't sure if this is a normal part of chicken anatomy or if it might be an ingrown feather or something like that. She doesn't appear to be in pain when she's walking around, but she did protest quite a bit when I was messing around with that bump (could have been painful, or just annoyed).

I found no other possible causes for her tail to be crooked, and I was wondering if anyone else had seen anything like this?
