(S)he's an odd bird...

I might have missed this whilst looking at this thread but how old is she? Definitely a she! She looks like what one of my chickens looked like around 4 mths. :) Their combs and wattles will grow! My girls now are huge! And she will lay even though the girl I’m talking about isn’t currently laying. She’s four but still I got her with two others one of which I still have who is four and she is an excellent or egg-cellent layer! :)

How old is she? If pullets of the same age are laying then she is definitely not a cockerel because a cockerel of that age would have the male-specific, pointed saddle feathers.

Some breeds develop more slowly than others and start laying months later than others. (If early maturity is a desirable trait for you then make sure not to hatch any of her eventual eggs. :) ).

I agree with @RoostersAreAwesome, thats a pullet. She has rounded saddle feathers, no comb or wattles. She's young. Shes not ready to lay yet. Shes picked on more as she is the lowest member on the chicken heirarchy despite being the biggest. While we love our chickens, their social structure can seem to be quite mean. She will eventually find her place in the flock.

Great question. I live in rural Costa Rica and got them from a friend who raises chickens. I asked him how old and he told me "they're laying or almost laying" 😅

Ok here you guys go. I hope these are helpful as y'all are pretty divided. 😅🐔🙏🏽

It's a pullet with odd tail feathers, or maybe some kind of intersex gender. Definitely not a cockerel.

If she is being picked on that could mean that your flock needs more coop and run space.
This one and one other were introduced a few days later than the rest. They do free range in the afternoons.

And yes. My thought has been that it's some sort of intersex gender fluke.

Not the prettiest bird I've ever seen, but very sweet.

Pretty girl. Without exact age, it will be hard to tell when she'll start laying. She could be 3 months and might not lay until 6 or 7 months due to her genetics, or she could be 5 months and about to pop an egg out anyday.

Is it possible she was dubbed? Don't know a reason for it, but that would explain the lack of comb and wattles
