Thank you all for your warm welcomes !! I love my chickens lol as we all do but I may be to weak to handle this rooster situation. The rooster I removed was the one who was in submission to the other rooster. The one I took away was always with my hen. He started out as a goofy guy and grumpy was the one in charge I assumed. Then they flipped the scripts yesterday. Now I'm making myself sick because I feel I may have taken away my hens mate....this sounds crazy I know and I'm sure some may roll their eyes lol I just dont know if I removed the right guy ! Last night my hen didnt wanna let the aggressor into the coop! So then I'm thinking how will they stay warm and a number of things like I broke up true love.... There is no true love in the work of chickens right ???! This whole rooster business started when I purchased my three hens from fog pond farms in upstate NY... The seller told me I had three baby hens !! Assured me even ! Turned out I had on hen and two roos!!! Driving me so crazy worrying about my birds ! I also brought the two chicks inside last night because I'm sure it was way too hot in the bunny hutch with the 250 watt bulb...they are just getting their feathers. They are seven weeks I was told !! I can't have chickens in the house but I dont have the proper shelter ! Why is this so hard!!! I want to share great stories and good comments ! After all none of this crap happened on little house on the prairie !!! I will take with a smile any constructive critisim or answers ! Please I'm def in need of some feed back good or bad !! Ty all for listening to my ridiculous rant
Hello there and welcome to BYC!
Sorry about your roosters. Sometime when the boys grow up, they can turn on each other.
As for the young ones if they are more than 6 weeks old, you can start to wean them off heat now. They are fully feathered and should be able to handle the cold temps. I would raise the lamp so that it only gives them a small bit of heat. Keep the lamp like this for one week and then remove it all together. If you are going to mix these two into an adult flock or any flock for that matter, you will need to wait until they are at least 3 months or more before you can mix them. For now you can keep them in a cage or small enclosure in the run and coop for the next month. Then in a month or so, you can mix them in. Make sure to put out extra food and water stations so these babies can eat and drink. The older flock members will try to run them off for a while and starve them out.
