?s On Ee

I got my EE's from a local hatchery and I really like them. I have 7 of them and each are a different color, I have a couple on my BYC page and my avatar is one when she was a chick. The one in my avatar ended up turning white with some black and a gray "beard". I have 2 that lay brown eggs and the other four lay a mint green to a blue egg that is nice sized. When it is warm out I get 4-5 a week from each of them but right now with it so cold out I get only 3-7 eggs out of around 35 layers.

What I find interesting is that they say specifically that EEs should not be confused with true Ameraucanas, but then pics 4 and 5 are EEs...AND the caption says "Ameraucana Hen"!!!

Another great place to get Easter Eggers is from Cackle. They're great layers of big beautiful eggs, and the birds are drop-dead gorgeous! My neighbor got a rooster and 11 hens and nearly everyone has blue on it, and everyone of them is beautiful!

But also note, as said before, they have more photos of Easter Eggers in there than Ameraucanas, AND confuse people with the two.

Never count on hatcheries to tell you truths on Ameraucanas, considering they can't even tell you they're not Ameraucanas. . .

Also, my Ameraucanas give me more than 3/wk. . . .

One big bit of kudos I'll certainly give to though is Nature's Hatchery, for ACTUALLY telling its customers that the two are different, and that they offer Easter Eggers!

This is my Tractor Supply EE I got last March in Lake Wales Fl. I don't know what hatchery they use. She lays cream colored eggs and did't stop untill the weather got cold. We've had two hard freezes this past week. She's one of my favorites but doesn't like to be touched. Her name is Goldie.

Our ee's lay around 5 eggs per week. Without a doubt our friendliest birds. Our last ee to lay just started (late! 32 weeks!) and her first 3 eggs have all been extra large on the egg scale. Very cool egg, olive with white speckles. She is a cool looking bird too, HUGE, and white and black. My avatar is our favorite chicken, Marge. Bubbles, our other EE lays the most beautiful blue egg, she is sneaky though, she is our only chicken that tries to lay in the yard. We ordered from Estes hatchery. The silver laced Wyandottes are nothing to write home about. Their ee's are awesome though. No funny toes or other problems. We got 3 green eggs today (very cold here now, not sure if the other ee layed, she lays a light brown egg and I didn't look to see if hers was in there)

We definitely have EEs and not the true breed Ameraucanas. I have had such great production from these hens. They are now almost 1.5 years old and have been fairly regular layers. The white scrawny EE who is definitely the bottom of our pecking order, lays the bluest eggs. the brown ones lay the big green eggs and they can "hold their own".

Here are their eggs:

I think I qwill always have a few of these birds--I love the colors
