I have 2 baby chicks that are almost 2Days Old... (1) Is it normal for them to be fighting/pecking at each others feet & face? (2) How many Toes do Baby Chicks have? (3) Are they all born with Spurs? One Chick's Feet look extra Big with the big toe/spur in the back facing inwards making it look like its difficult to walk. It looks like he keeps walking/stepping on his own feet.

Thanks in advance, ~Julie~

Do you know what kind they are? I just got silkie chicks and they have more toes than other chickens and they do have a big toe and a little one that sort of sticks out in the middle. It does look much different than my other chicks. Yours are only 2 days old so they're just learning to use those big feet they have...and they do look too big for their bodies. When my broody just hatched her chicks last week, I heard the peeping under her and lifted her up to see them and all I saw was the huge foot sticking out of her fur.

My little ones do sometimes peck at each other, especially if they see something that is out of place...like a feather that's sticking up, or a piece of poo stuck to a foot. As long as they aren't really hurting each other it's fine. You're probably just seeing them playing.

If you had a little boy, it wouldn't have spurs yet.

Just make sure they are eating, drinking and are warm.
