So I have a friend of a co-worker who is hispanic and doesn't speak English well, so we were working through a translator. I have gotten two dfferent stories as to the reason, but the bottom line is... he is getting rid of all his animals (whether or not he had to is unsure). He has three goats, two pregnant does and one buck. We went out to see them today and they were kept in just barely decent conditions (emphasis on just barely). He followed me home and insisted on fixing my fence RIGHT NOW for me (on the pasture I DONT want them in and have no place to put them in other than my new coops that are as yet unoccupied, as opposed to the pasture with the goat shed) and then insisted on bringing them TONIGHT, and wants $300 for all three of them. Now these does have had twins and triplets in the past and I know for a fact their milk is good because I have had it on several occasions.

But I really wasn't quite ready for them (was thinking in two weeks), can't quite afford them (he'll take payments), and I obviously don't know how to say no. I totally got bamboozled into this deal. I don't know if they are healthy although they looked great (please don't laugh at me), don't know if this will jeopardize any future goats I want etc, and don't know how easy it will be to get rid of the buck (the ad is already on craigslist).

The long term plan is to let the does kid, keep the kids, get rid of the adults. The adults have horns and I am a scaredy wuss and don't want my goats to have horns, so I can whether and de-bud any boy babies and keep and girls.

Hmmmm, sounds like something I would do and dh would kill me!

What kind are, how old are they and what kind of conditions were they in that was just barely acceptable?

They are about 2 years old. I think (with absolutely NOOOOOOOO goat experience) that they are Nubian cross... but I know NOTHING!!!!!! as far as goat breeds.. they have long ears. And he had three acres which were VERY steep down to a river that they couldn't get to that was just one big mud slope. He had 6 cows in same area and one cow was stuck in mud. They did have a fairly big covered area where they could be, but NO grass or anything, just mud...

The horns really should not be a problem at all. My brother's goat didn't have horns, but my goat grew back some pretty large ones after we had him dehorned. They were always very sweet, and we would just watch our backs with them. Of course you should always do that with any animal, but I would fear more the goats getting caught with their horns in a fence than them hurting you with them. Our goats were probably about 200+ pound boys, and they wouldn't hurt a fly!

Well they got here, and I am glad we didn't wind up on youtube. The guy got the male out of the truck and it was running circles around him. I have changed the craigslist ad to FREE, if you can catch him, you can have him. It is pitch black so no pics tonight, but first thing in am.... ugh... my coop is going to smell

I am not even sure what to tell you except good luck and enjoy them. I love my goaties, they are Nigerian Dwarfs and very friendly and sweet. I have a wether and two does. The wether and one doe grew back little horns after they were disbudded and they aren't mean with them, but big horns scare me also. I feed my babies hay mixed with alfalfa (depending on the weather and how fat they are looking) and goat chow mixed with loose mineral and some salt. I am not really sure if that is right but they are thriving on it and I have had them going on two years. I don't give them much of the chow as I have heard it isn't great for wethers. Also fresh water, my goat are picky about their water. They only have a three sided shelter with a dirt bottom covered in fresh straw. I have heard about keeping baking soda out for them at all times to help with stomach issues. The thing that scared me the most was hoof trimming but even that is easy now. My goat pen is dirt, they have ate all the grass out of it but being at home most days I tether them on lead lines where I can see them and they chow down my yard for me. That looks good.

HI Susy I was wondering (since you don't know how to say no) if you would like to buy some land (beach front) I have in Florida it is out in the everglades I will sell it to you dirt cheap heck I will even take payments.

You are way better then me for sure cause would have told him no deal if he want's you to take them tonight for sure.....
