Sad/Bad News tonight

You know, listening to y'all talk about your big snakes makes me realize the rain here in Washington (west side) isn't so bad after all! I can deal with possums and coons, plus the hawks and eagles. But snakes totally freak me out (childhood trauma). We get some rather large and aggressive garter snakes here, and they are death on my pond fish and frogs. But we don't have 6' bull snakes or pit vipers! Thank goodness!!

Thank you all for the support I don't like killing snakes round here cause they do keep the field mouse population down but I'll be danged all to heck (cleaned up version) if I will let one eat my chickens

Twentynine,
"what was all the running around for?" well here is the case I have a grow out pen in my big coop it is just T post's and chain link fencing with no real way to get into it I have to stand on a cinder block to get the waterer and I am 6'1" tall so you can imagin how tall this is. First problem I had a crappy flashlight, snake was inside the chain link fence, I couldn't see the snakes head even though he had the chicken half down, (it was the angle he was laying) plus I had 2 little ones that I was going to place in the grow out pen (one in each hand) My wife who is affraid of snakes holding said flashlight (yeah that was fun try focusing with a little crappy pen flashlight while your wife is freaking out while you try to kill a snake who's head you can't see but when I did hit him I only clipped him he spit out the chicken then hauled into an area where I couldn't not reach him at so I went and got the bb gun the fun part came after when I was trying to fish him out of the area where he was.
Needless to say the chain link now opens.

Marthas_ear,
I grew up in a family that was hunters and fisherman we respect the land and the animals that live off the land.
So to kill a predator is no big deal to me as I said I respect the land but even enter into my area and start to eat one of mine Bad news for you I will protect mine and if that means shooting human or beast so be it I can sleep at night just as well knowing that my faimly is safe (which includes my animals).
