Thanks for your compliments guys, our chickens are our babies and we try to mother them and spoil them as much as possible, they're all usually so bright and chipper with gleaming feathers and very affectionate, it's just something in particular seems to be wrong with THIS flock. First the Black Australorp (Sasha) nearly died as a chick so we had to force-feed her back to health, then as pullets, our white Leghorn (Snow White) got attacked by magpies and had a huge gash in her head and we had to rush her off to the vets and she stayed there for a week and when she returned, she became the bottom most chook in the pecking order and all the fighting problems between our happy little family started. About a week ago, one of our Isa Browns (Spot) started limping (for reasons unknown to us because I felt her leg and while there's some tenderness in that area, I don't think it's broken), and the limping it getting much worse recently, and now this with Youhzni! I feel like we're doing something wrong--our old flock never used to get sick/mysteriouslyinjured! The only chicken we have that remained problem-free from birth is Princess, our other Isa Brown.
I'm not sure whether she's broody, I didn't think about that at all actually, but don't they make broody noises when they start? So far the only noise I hear from her is these slow, weak raspy clucks. She's moving around a bit more in the backyard though, didn't have her dinner but she had a little bit of meat offcuts we offered her, before she started aimlessly walking around again. We're keeping her under observation, we bought them some wormers so they're going through a no-drinking stage at the moment but in the morning we'll give them all the wormers and see how she's doing.
Vets aren't really an option right now, we're a bit tight on cash and the last thing my mother wants to do is take a chicken in to see a vet (I think she'd sooner strangle Youhzni and eat her!
). Youhzni has moved out of her corner though and she's slowly walking around a bit, though she's still not 100%, so all we can do now is try the wormers and wait I guess.
