Sad day at work rant..

What they did was very rude and childish... and it does border on harrasment.
BUT... you can not say a word about what this man chooses to eat.... sorry..
he can eat balut at work for lunch all he wants..(even though i think hes disgusting for it...)...
Honestly.. Just ignore them... why let them know that they bugged you?? I wouldnt give them the satisfaction!!! Just hold your head up and smile and go about your day...
I dont think that i would make a big deal about it... again...its really none of your business what he eats.
I'm very sorry... You sound like you work with some real losers..

I think you are taking it a little too personal. Lots of people eat balut. For some, it can be difficult to get down at first. If I were you, I would have said "I really want to see you guys eat that."

When working in multicultural settings, sometimes you just have to look the other way. You probably have some personal quirks that they find offensive or strange. It is part of living and working in a global business world.

Ok- So for those who cannot understand what my issue was- I do realise that people can eat what they like- And will no matter how much it may disgust me- My issue is the fact that this whole stunt was done to upset me. They purposefully chose a topic they know would be upsetting- And standing 2 metres away from me discussed it very loudly in detail for a number of minutes. It is also not the first occasion something of this nature has hapened. About 6 months ago I got to work in the morning to find a picture of a roast duck on my desk- Who ever did it- searched the net for a photo- printed it- cut it out then laminated it- before placing it on my desk- They sure went to an effort to upset me.
OK...so I breed ducks and really love the gorgeous creatures and have in my time cared for many sick injured or deformed ones- I have helped some hatch to save their lives- It saddens me to think that people eat them before they even get a chance to live- But the main emphasis was not so much what the subject of there torment was- but the fact that people I work with for 40 hours a week have such little respect for a workmate and that I could be treated this way. Surely we all deserve some respect from our fellow workers- especially when I have never done anything to upset my colleges in such a way. We are all supposed to work as a team- but how is this possible when indiviuals are being targetted in this way.

But I fail to see what the offense was or is. Right here on BYC many of us talk about eating ducks, geese, chickens, culling, killing, bleeding out, all manner of fowl cuisine. Surely you have encountered "blood talk" right here before, and you remain a member.

I understand that humans need to eat meat as part of a healthy diet- And when it comes to threads of this type on BYC- I have the choice to read it- or hit the index button to find something I would prefer to read. And the people who started those particular threads - did not have offending me in mind as the sole perpose of starting those threads in the first place.

1. Your employer allows you to bring animals to your office?

I have to ask permission first in special cases when I have animals on medication. They are kept in a secure out of the way place and I only attend to them durring my breaks. I am not the only person who has been allowed to bring animals to work.

what nasty rude coworkers! I hope they all have nightmares.

Moreover, I hope for your dream job to knock on your door tomorrow!

Have a good weekend!

ETA: here we can click a different page if we want... at work the OP is a captive audience unless reported harassment is seriously dealt with.

i agree with duckyfromoz. we don't read the threads about eating animal meat for a reason. it makes us sad. it makes me sad that everyone's idea of dealing with a tough animal is to put them down and eat them. i never respond because there are other ways. it's called locking them up in a separate pen untill breeding season is over. i would have been highly mad myself and i probably would have yelled and/or punched someone. i have no tolerance for that kind of selfish and childish behavior. she never does anything to offend anyone, why does she deserve that?? it's not fair. they went out of their way to make her upset. they did it on purpose. if they had an inch of respect for anyone, they would have gone to the side to talk about it, but not loud right in front of her. she is NOT taking it too personal. it was a PERSONAL ATTACK

I put tough animals down. i don't have a seperate pen for them. so in the pot they go. some people don't have the time or money to have a different area for certain animals. i don't.

i feel for the OP. i am sorry you have to work with people that would take it upon themselves to go to such lengths to hurt you. I would def. talk to your supervisor after documenting.
Good luck

you can rehome the animal as well, you don't need to kill the animal. there are other ways of dealing with problem animials. duckyfromoz and i see our animals as our children and we purposely don't read that kind of stuff because it makes us sad. to us killing your pet is like killing your child. it's how we view things, but we keep our mouths shut, till now. we don't get on your butts about it, so there is no reason anyone should do that to her. she has never ever offended anyone personally for giggles. she is a very respecful, sweet woman!

And there are many of us who never go to those forums. Because we find the entire idea, at best, unappealing.
