Unfortunately today we had to put our beloved 5 month old buff orpington down. She was diagnosed with mereks disease and it effected her very quickly. We knew the best option for her was putting her to sleep.

Poor thing. I’m sorry you lost her, but it was the right thing to do. You gave her her best life possible, and in the end, you freed her from her suffering. She was lucky to have you. I hope you feel better soon.Unfortunately today we had to put our beloved 5 month old buff orpington down. She was diagnosed with mereks disease and it effected her very quickly. Yes i know. They haven’t shown any symptoms and they were only together for one day before we separated herSorry for your loss.
If she was infected, then the rest if your birds are also, just give you the heads up.
I’ve read so much about it. I’m keeping a very good eye on my other 3 hens to make sure none of them are showing signs. And i pray to god they don’t. We sanitized the coop and redid the entire run but i know it can still spreadThis is a great article on it, by one of our members. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...-i-learned-to-deal-with-mareks-disease.76944/
They may start showing when stressed. 1 day is long enough, it's spread through dandruff.Yes i know. They haven’t shown any symptoms and they were only together for one day before we separated her
As soon as i took her to the vet, we separated her into the garage and sanitized the entire coop and run. I’m keeping a very watchful eye on the other birds. Mereks is more common in chicks 10-25 weeks of age but older birds can still get it. My hens are almost a year old, and i’ve read so much about it. They could be carriers but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will show symptomsThey may start showing when stressed. 1 day is long enough, it's spread through dandruff.
