Sad day, need help

If you can go back and get two more Americana, or trade back the Americana for sex links. Sex links are such great birds, and are laying machines, but they can be ornery. By adding more of the more timid bird, it will spread out the pecking.

What does your run look like? Is it an open empty rectangle? Add some stuff or junk to it. Makes it much more interesting to the birds. Ladders, pallets, an outdoor shelter or shade spot. Things birds can get up on, or under. Set up a scrap of board or plywood like a mini wall, maybe kitty corner, set up an extra feed station behind that, out of sight of the main feed station, add an extra water bowl.

This can make the run look cluttered, but slows down a chasing bully. It allows birds to get away from each other. And makes use of vertical space, often times not utilized in the run.

Sorry for your losses & troubles. Our girls coop and run are surrounded by over 200 acres of heavy forest. We've had bobcat, failed fox attack, and a failed black bear attack. The first two things we did was add a solar powered motion light. This is only slightly a deterrent, but it works at times. Second, we picked up some of these audible motion detectors, shown below. This sends an alert inside one my night stand. With this, I can gaze out the window, the solar moton light kicked on already, and i can see what's lurking about. The predator leaves in a hurry after hearing my voice or the smell of gun powder. Thirdly, electric fence. We installed this for the bear that kept coming back before eventually trying to breach the run. Keep food out of the /run when they aren't eating too.

Thank you so much for these suggestions. i wondered about returning the little one for another sex link, but am not sure they will accept it. But I like the idea of adding to the run. I have 2 perches and she likes to get on those and the sex links never do, so maybe more "toys" would be good.

And thank you for the link for the motion alerting thing. I will look into those right now. Even if I can send my dogs out (after raccoons and weasels, not bears!) it may help.

I cannot thank every one enough for all of the wonderful suggestions, encouragement and support I have been given.
