About 1.5 years ago my family and I decided to get chicks. My daughter and I researched found a good breed for upstate NY. All was good coop plus 20x25 enclosure, 3 nights ago something (thing raccoon) got in.

It was a massacre we lost 5 out of 8 heads ripped off but only 1 missing from the enclosure.

So now I have 3 left. 1 big buff and 2 runts. The big one hasn’t left the nesting box since and I haven’t gotten eggs in 2 days. I know stress everyone different but will they ever lay again will my big hen return to normal? I’ve thought to send the 3 to a new location with more birds to adapt and get back to life but...

My family has had chickens most of my life. We have had some very damaging predator attacks over the years. So far, the chickens all seem to readjust just fine, some it takes more time than others.

Welcome, and I'm so sorry for your losses. Disasters happen, and we learn from them. Have you figured out how that raccoon got in and fixed it? Pictures here will help us help you.
Your survivors are right to be freaked out, and over time they will recover. Keep them in a safe place until your coop and run are made safe!
This raccoon ad the whole raccoon family will return!!!
Live traps work, but only trap if you will shoot and bury the varmits! Releasing them is the worst choice.
Good luck,
Mary

Most likely since it has already made some kills, it will be back. I have game cameras up. I agree with Mary don't relocate it to give someone else the problem. We have had that here. We are rural and live on a dead end road. People have relocated their pests in our area. One time someone dropped off a baby goose in my driveway.
