I am so sorry! One of the reasons I got a large breed chicken was so Hawks would not try to get them, but then I read that they will kill them anyway, even if they can not get off of the ground.

This hawk never got off the ground with Maggie she barely got her when my husband ran around the corner she just killed her and took off and loos like she barely did any damage but it was enough. My rooster is very upset still he wont stop squaking.

So sorry

I have lost some to hawks
I kept them locked up for a while and it moved on - I had a very watchful rooster and when he was watching no losses - my last loss was my Mrs. Silkie who liked to wander on her own
Hopefully the Hawk goes away - the only way to keep them away of with a pen some have used fishing wire and cd's but that only works if they are in a locked up area
again sorry for your loss

We have a constant hawk problem. Unfortunately because of that we only free-range when we are out with the girls. And, we have deer netting over their run for extra protection. Today we had three circling overhead, but as usual, they just do lazy circles through the yard and move on pretty quickly. I've had hens for over a year and a half and have never lost one to a hawk. They must realize there is no free dinners here.

Perhaps if you could put netting up, extending out from your coop it would give them a little more time to get in, yet still allow them to free-range. I've also heard that hanging CD's help scare them away, but I don't know if anyone has had any luck with this method.

Regardless, I'm so sorry for your loss.
