SAD, hello and goodbye?

Sounds like a dog to me. Raccoons don't come out until dark and are more likely to eat more. I had a dog break into my run and kill my birds without eating anything.

Ripping part of the coop apart definitely sounds like a raccoon. I had to move my coop because of my stupid neighbor and it wasn't as strong as the original coop. Some raccoons ripped apart the cage in three places and killed all three of my chickens and left them in the yard. The ducks were hiding inside and remained safe....that being said I am rebuilding so that absolutely nothing can get in.

Smongerer, raccoons are animals of oppurtunity, I'm sure that every animal within a mile knows they are there. Dogs would not rip a coop apart for the most part. Raccoons will come out in the day, spend hours tearing at it until they get what they want.

In my situation, I know for a fact that it was a dog who ripped my coop apart. I understand that coons will get in however they can but they are more likely to eat the birds if they do. I my situation the dog just killed them, there was hardly any visible wounds.

Poster is in the UK... so raccoons are highly doubtful

after a quick google search it looks like the possible suspects would be (in no particular order):

people
dogs
cats
fox
badger
mink, stoats, weasels
birds of prey
pine martens
rats

it's pretty easy to start eliminating them from the list since the OP stated that the front of the coop had been ripped off
so that would leave dogs, foxes and badgers as being the primary suspects
