I thought the same but it was a hot day we didn't have any drops in temp . And even when they were alive she was so protective she flew into the air after my brother for getting to close . It's just so strange and upsetting

Yeah....Next time she will probably be a better Momma...She was a bit stressed...

My Last Broody Hen that hatched out 13 Chicks Killed one...I had to sell off newly hatched Chicks because she was overwhelmed with so many..She successfully raised 5 Chicks...My a Duck Hen is setting eggs and I will take them away and only only let her have two if they successfully hatch or take them all away.......

It's always a gamble with first time Mommas....

Ya it's horrible . Turns out she had 3 of them but we never even saw the first one she must have died a bit before the other two . And she had a nest of 4 the fourth one never hatched
