We had two pekins we raised from babies, one hen, Snoopy, and one drake, Gloopy (named by our 3 year old son). Snoopy met a terrible end a few nights ago from a predator, it was a hard loss, really awful attack. Gloopy has been so depressed and shaken almost since then. We've fixed the issue with the coop, and put a couple of our chickens in the duck house to sleep with Gloopy, since they were all raised together, their friendly. I got a line on a farmer selling some Muscovy hens near me, that are the same age as our flock. Would it be helpful for Gloopy to get some friends? We thought about ducklings, but it's still cold in the NE here, and they wouldn't be ready to hang with Gloopy for a while. Would the pekin and Muscovy do well together? Should I get one hen or two? I'm so new to all of this, I just want our gloopy to be ok. Poor sweet duck.

Yes Muscovy's and Pekins can live together. I'd get 2 females because drakes can be pretty hard on just one female duck during mating.

I am so sorry for your loss.

FYI Drakes can also kill chicken hens if they mate with them they have totally different anatomy .

I found some pekins, but they're a 2.5 hour drive away, and I also have 2 human babies to care for. The Muscovy are 15 mins away. Would making the drive be worth it though? I like the idea of different breeds, as long as they'll all be happy together.
