Sad sight at feed store.

I'm sure it's because the caged up chicks could barely move and just eat non-stop all day. My little free-ranging 3 weeks olds must run/fly a million miles a day. I've been trying to get a picture of them for over a week but they literally don't stop moving long enough for me to get a pic. They do this little combo run/fly thing. Their little legs are running a 100 mph while their new little wings are going like hummingbird wings. They do that all over the 30' x 60' run. I'm wondering how long it will be before they realize they are still fenced in and the big girls are out running wild? They are like little kids, I have to catch them mid-day and put them back in their pen so they will eat & drink and take a nap. They run from me because they know I'm going to put them in pen. They get in far corner of run under the pen so I can't get them. When I finally do catch them and put them back in their hutch they run to the food and water - take a fast bite/drink and literally collapse for a couple of hours nap. But soon they are up and peeping at top of lungs to be let out again. They fly out before I can finish getting the door open all the way.

That's why it was so sad. I couldn't help comparing the lifestyles of the two sets of chicks. I felt sorry for the ones I didn't pick to come home with me that first day. They've led a miserable life since then while mine spend the day yelling "yippeeeeeee".

Me too, if I could get to LA I would buy the lot of them. I really don't have the room but they could hunker down for the winter! I can't understand why no one bought them, they would be gone in a heartbeat up here.

Grow crumbles are specially forumulated to provide "perfect" nutrition to maximize growth. The use of hormones in poultry as far as I know it in the US is no longer legal.
