Sad story (disturbing)

I say to each their own, but to deny the breeding behind the pitbull is silly to me. True they were not bred to bite people, but they were bred to have "game". Simply put this means once they have their mind set on something, they do not stop easily. This can be good if its a search and rescue dog, or bad if it descides to bite.

when a jack russell is nippy people say, well, you did get a jack. if an aussie herds children, we say, well, it is an aussie.

Why do people say its how they are raised when its a pitt, but no other breed?

I do like pitts but will never have one. Because I know that I am not the right owner. Many people think they can love the "game" out of a pitt.

I have seen examples of several dog breeds attacking on a dime. It is not just pits. The media has hyped them up to be the Big Nasty Killers of the Century. I had a pit. His name was Mac. As in Macaroni and Cheese, because he would freakin leap over people to get to the mac & cheese.

He wove a friendship with the mutt dog next door. Christmas eve, the two plotted the demise of Christmas in my neighbors house. Rubbed their little paws together and made a diagram. Whispered throughout the night about their plan. High fives and handshakes and the plan was in place.

Shortly after midnight, while the neighbors were out at a party and we were fast asleep, the two dogs dug a hole under our fence into the neighbors yard. The two culprits then drug every single piece of Christmas decorations the could get their teeth on into our yard. They were not yet satisfied though!!!! They then drug every single Christmas treat available into our yard. Cookie trays, nut trays, rum balls, salad bowls. EVERYTHING.

My neighbors came home to two extremely muddy dogs asleep on their leather couch. Hard nights work.

We had pillows, Santas, reindeer, blankets, stockings, nutcrackers, ornaments, EVERYTHING in our back yard.

That dog would not kill a fly. But he nearly decapitated a Santa.

Or a combination of that and their genetic make up. Both factor into temperment in all species.

Yep.. tis true.

I think it's because people who really know put bulls know that a put bull will do anything to please it's owner. That's one reason why people fight them. When the dog sees that it pleases it's owner to attack another dog, they will fight to the death to do so.

Granted the fact that through selective breeding and such they've become muscular and strong jawed which doesn't help, but I've only ever had the pleasure of meeting extremely friendly Pitt bulls.

The problem I have with reports that talk about "pit-bull types" is that many people can't tell a pit-bull from a hole in the ground. So they may have reported that the dog that bit them was a pit-bull but that doesn't mean it was.
