Sad story (disturbing)

You know, pit bulls accout for a large % of the dog population, I would venture. Just based on that alone, you would expect more to have a higher probability that when a attack happens, that it could be a pit bull. then take into account the sort of people who gravitate to a breed like this - usually people who can't take care of themselves or thier kids or thier dogs - increases the probablility more, I would guess that you have a powerful dog that has grown up either poorly socialized or badly trained or untrained. Irresponsible people tend to not only not take time to properly train a dog, but they often can't or don't contain those dogs. People who get them because they want a tough dog, often re-enforce agressive behavior. Someone should do a study on the owners of these dogs that attack - I bet that there would be a lot of comminalities between them.

Exactly. I am neither pro or con pit bull. I honestly do not like their shape or fur. I prefer a GSD or a small yappy curly haired thing. But Mac? Mac was a cool a dog. Christmas aside.....

I've often thought about that. That maybe the high percentage of pit bull bites as opposed to other dogs is due to the fact that there is simply a high percentage of pits existing compared to other dogs. It's interesting too, a lot of people that own pitts think it's a GOOD idea to breed them to every other pitt that walks upright.

Interesting dog bite statistics.

Unfortunately, while Pitt bulls are not one of the highest ranking biters, they do take the lead in fatal attacks. Basically you're less likely to get attacked by a pitt bull than by most dogs we consider friendly, but if you were to be attacked by one it is more likely to be fatal than any of those dogs.

I read the whole story and I don't understand why the uncle was being arrested when he wasn't even home. Yet the mother and two other kids were there IN THE KITCHEN when it happened? Shouldn't they be the responsible party?

Confused...

I can assure you that the little girl I saw get attacked right in front of me did not treat her dog in any way that would have caused what it did an the dog went from its normal harmless self to ripping her face off with no warning.

We have a pit bull so sweet, now our 7 pound mutt is a overly protective crazy lil thing. So I think it really depends on the individual dog, and their upbringing.

Some mace would have been handy (Maybe not

).. Why did the dog do that in the first place? It just came in and attacked? No reason? Did it think the people were prey? I am very curious of what goes on in the mind of other animals.
Other than the obvious fact "it attacked because of how it was raised".
It's owners trained it to go into peoples' houses and maul families? Or was the the dog angry and took it out on a family?
