Sad that my chickens don't really like to be touched.

We have 4 roosters and our hens behave according to breed, not the fact that there are roosters around. When we were building our coop's run, and the peeps were in the coop, the barred plymouth rocks were always under foot trying to help us finish

. Their behavior was not altered because of the roosters, their brooder mates. The Rhode Island Reds, on the other hand, never liked to be handled even as chicks.

Thanks everyone for all the advice! I have been going out and spending time with them as much as I can. I got some wonderful meal worms that totally creep me out to touch

but they love them!! I am happy to report that one of my plymouth rocks "Strawberry" actually jumped up on my leg as I was sitting with them & peeked to see if I had any more worms or scratch hidden somewhere. This was so exciting to me! She didn't stay long but it was an improvement! The RIR hens are still wary of me but hopefully they will start to trust me more in the future. The RIR rooster is more brave. He will eat scratch out of my hands & let me stroke his chest but if I ever try and pet his back area he moves away. Planning to keep setting with them as much as possible! Thank you all again!!

My friend -who owns the chickens with me and whose yard they are in-was out in the run with me Friday holding chickens while I was trying to put some oil on their very dry combs. Some loved it. Some did not. I picked up the last one, our Ameraucana with a slight crossbeak and a funny "personality" and I think she would have stayed in my arms the rest of the afternoon. She made the sweetest sounds. I was even more in love, if that is possible, I am looking forward to a few warmer, hopefully drier days when I can go out and really have spend some time with them.
