A few days ago I started having an issue with Safari crashing any time I am in a reply field on any BYC thread.

History: used Safari for 6 months – never had this issue until 3 days ago. I can browse any other website without issue. I can post on Facebook without issue, or reply to an email. I can browse BYC all day long. I can reply to PM’s without issue. This ONLY becomes an issue when typing into a reply field of a thread.

As a workaround, I have started typing my posts (including this one) in Word, then putting it all on the clipboard, hitting “reply”, pasting and immediately clicking on “submit”. Even doing it this way, Safari crashed one time before the submit had completed. And, if I forget for a second to switch to Word and start to type into a reply field, inevitably the crash occurs before I get finished with my thought process.

I have rebooted Safari. I’ve rebooted my machine. I’ve cleared the history on Safari. But, as the issue is so specific to BYC thread replies, I now believe the issue is not my machine but something on BYC that changed on Thursday. Perhaps a new advertisement that is causing an issue?

Which version of Safari are you using? I'm on Version 6.0.4 (7536.29.13) and though I've had some technical issues since Thursday, they were nowhere near as bad as yours. I've only had one post disappear in the editor so far and one when I submitted, but when I reloaded the page it showed up. The other things were easy to work around.

The version I'm currently on seems to works very well with BYC.

Good question Sumi! I am on Version 6.1 (8537.71). But, unless Safari installed an update on Thursday behind the scenes and without notifying me, I’ve been on that version for longer than a few days, because the last time I was notified to install any updates was at least a couple of weeks ago.

I'm assuming you're on a Mac? You should be able to upgrade to this version of Safari, that I'm on, for free then. We upgraded in April and got this version. Took a bit to get used to the new tabs, but it's nice and BYC friendly! Maybe that will help you? Because like I said I've been having very few problems since the latest BYC upgrade, more annoying little things and I haven't had any issues so far today (touch wood!).

I don’t know….it looks like I’m already on a more recent version than you are and generally it is harder to go backwards than forwards (i.e., once you’ve upgraded, they don’t want you to go back and start using an older version, so they make it hard to find it to download it).

I got the Mac in May but couldn’t tell you the progression on the versions of Safari I’ve bee on. When I get the notification there is an update available, I generally update fairly quickly but I don’t note when those updates occur so I don’t know how long its been since I got upgraded to this version – just that its been at least a couple of weeks since I was notified of any updates that needed to be installed.

Someone here may be able to help you: http://www.apple.com/support/ Otherwise try an Apple store? If you don't win with Safari, FireFox is also pretty good. I've used it for a few months on our old Mac. We upgraded in April, like I said and since then we have received any notifiers of new versions?

Actually I think there is a problem with the newer versions and the draft saving. There is a LOT of discussion going on with the engineers and the various site owners about this. Some sites they are mac based are really being impacted.

Ok, that fits. Thanks for staying on top of this Nifty!
