Safe age for DE?

How old should chickens be before mixing DE into their bedding?

Can I use it in the brooder for 4 wk old chicks? They have been spending a lot of time out in the yard playing (inside in the brooder at night) and I thought they might pick up bugs/mites/etc....

Well not much of an answer. I just did a search and every opinion is different. from no minimum age to 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks and so on and so on. Lol I think you are safe with 4 week olds.
Maybe others with more experience can chime in.

I'm a new chicken mamma so I'm sure others can give better advice. My chicks are 2 days shy of 3 weeks. I dusted them with DE a few days ago and they are fine. I found little tiny "seed" ticks under their wings which is why I dusted. Took care of the creepy crawlers and chicks are just as happy as always.

yes at 4 wks it would be just fine, I have and no problems what so ever.
