Safe coop

Your chickens need lots of ventilation and space. I suggest making your own, because most coops you buy are very crappy quality, and not at all predator proofed. Many are too dark with not enough ventilation, causing your birds to become unhappy.
In a coop, you need 4 square feet of space per bird, 1 nest box for every 5-8 hens, roosts (10" of roost space per bird), and ventilation (1 square foot of ventilation per bird).
I suggest making your coop at least 25 square feet because you will want more chickens. A larger coop is also easier to ventilate, clean, and predator proof.
Cover all available openings less than 1/4" with hardware cloth that has 1/4" holes. Weasels can squeeze into 1/2" holes.
Make sure it is made of solid material like plywood, metal, or corrugated plastic. If you live in a cold place, compensate for that as well. Nest boxes should be 12" by 12" (I suggest 2 for you). Roosts should be above nest boxes, preferably 4 feet high. Ideally you should have 3 roosts- 1 at 4 feet high, 1 at 5 feet high, and 1 at 3 feet high.
When building a run (suggested for predator heavy areas), make sure it is at least 5' tall (or tall enough to walk into if you cover it), with a 12" apron extending outward at ground level. Use hardware cloth (1/2" is acceptable here), welded wire mesh, or deer fencing. Chicken wire is not acceptable.
