safe time of year to order chicks by mail to NE Wisconsin?

What's a safe time of year to order chicks by mail to NE WI? I don't want to order when it's too cold as I'm afraid the chicks will be traumatized by being shipped in cold weather in uninsulated vehicles. GG

I'm from WI. For me if I order chicks from a hatchery I would wait until at least May. I do hatch in Jan. and keep the wee ones in the basement. If you get chicks locally and have a place to keep them it's fine. Mike
