we are finishing our run of CC's and ran across something we haven't seen before. Background is this chicken didn't grow as well as the others and about a week ago stopped being able to walk. Feeling bad we decided to cull it with the other birds today we noticed right away after plucking that it had blood all over its rear end, not sure if its just from being picked on constantly or something someone here has seen before and that we should just discard the carcass. Saw one other thing on the wing was a dark black mark under skin. Carcass weighed out at 3 lbs, intestines looked ok very empty and on the shrunken side, but heart and liver looked perfectly fine. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you

Is it blood or bruising? I would guess the bruises were caused by an injury which rendered it unable to walk. The bird should be edible, I think, but the bruises areas would not be highly palatable. Just my take on the situation.
Edit: Actually, as red as the markings are, it looks more like a hematoma - again, the rest of the bird would probably still be edible.

What does it look like from the other side of the wound (from the inside)? Like was mentioned above if it looks clean it might just be a blood spot

Couldn't tell anything from the inside it all looked normal, also I expected the blood to wipe off when put in the ice bath, 50-75% of it did. I thought it was from being pecked at maybe? It's more like a hematoma than a bruise. The only bruise was on the wing.

Well that's just odd, isn't ? Personally if it were me I would take the breasts and legs/thighs off of this one instead of having it for a roaster. I guess my thoughts are that the congealed blood areas would taste off and possibly cause faster spoilage. Of course I am basing this on zero facts and just a gut feeling. :)
