Safe to eat?

Hi, my ducks have just started laying and they are laying their eggs in the kiddies pool that I use for a pond. I change the water every morning when I go down to collect the eggs and let the ducks out to free range (between 8am to 9am) so the eggs have only been sitting in the water not long. Are they safe to eat? How do I stop them laying in the water? Thank you...

I would not eat eggs that were laid in the pools. I use the pools too. Here I just keep all the ducks penned up (away from the pools) until after they lay, then afterward they can go swim. In Spring, Summer & Fall anyway. Eggs are somewhat porous, meaning there is some chance of bacteria passing into the egg thru the shell.

I strongly recommend that everyone take zero chances with food safety.
