My female rouen is sitting on 6 eggs, and are due to hatch on saturday :)
I have her, another female and 1 male pekin which is the father of the ducklings. I keep them
together in a pen locked up at night for safety then out in their yard during the day with access to a small pond.
the nest is in the nighttime pen, I'm not sure if I should remove the malew and other female from the pen...will they kill the ducklings when they hatch? I'm afraid they might hatch when they are all in there together, and hurt the babies...any advice? I have another duckhouse, but I wuld have to build a temporary fence to separate them,,should I do that? PLEASE HELP!!! thanks! :)

Yes a drake WILL kill your ducklings. I've had a mallard drake kill 2 ducklings before. I would defiantly separate them.

Today my Muscovy duck brought her 3 ducklings out for everyone to meet, I staid right there to make sure no one got hurt. My drakes and gander walked all around the ducklings and never offered to touch them, I was very relieved. I will not leave them alone with them and will be with them when they are outside.

Im glad I found this posting.. I have 2 call hens on eggs with there "hubby" also in the pen.. Its an 8 x 8 pen.... Ive never let them raise a clutch, so this is a first and i was worried about leaving Eugene in with them..I will take him out tonight and put him in my other 2 bachelors and hope for the best...The other 2 are little gangsters and beat everyone up, but Eugene is older and bigger and Im sure he can hold his own...
