safe vegetation

I want to make a raised garden bed in front of our run and plant a vine to grow up onto the dog fence/run that will provide a natural shade for summer. What plants are safe and would grow fast to do this? I'm in NE Kansas. Thanks in advance!

Go to the feeding your flock forum. Someone posted a very comprehensive list of poisonous pants. I was surprised by some of the plants listed. I was thinking of trumpet vine for shade.....nope, on the poison list. Good thing I'd checked.
