Is safeguard safe for your chickens? I have had chickens for 9 years now and have never used this. What is the best way to dose my flock?

Safe-guard comes in a couple of different forms.
It is used to get rid of certain type of worms, not all.

The most common forms, that are bought for chicken use, are best if given directly to the beak of each bird.
