We just moved and started a new flock a week ago. Sadly, the local hen yard where we purchased our 6 girls buys from Mt Healthy. Wish we had known... but we haven't had hens in a couple of years now, so we didn't think about it. Anyway... My question is how safe is it to eat the eggs of these hens when they are of age to lay? I know hard boiled would be fine, but are they safe for over easy egg lovers like myself?
I am fully on board with safety of handling the live hens, keeping them contained in their yard, not bringing shoes worn in the hen area into the house, hand and kitchen washing, etc. Just wondering that if I have to worry about the eggs for the next two years, should I have all 6 tested now or might it be better to stop and regroup with a new flock?
Thank so much, Sylvia
