Ive heard mixed things about them .. I think like with most animals it depends on how much you handle them...

IF you are wanting birds that are good representatives of the Saipan breed--do NOT buy them from a hatchery.

We got them from a hatchery. The pullets were friendly. The roo was a little nasty. The birds just grew to around 4-pounds at about 6 months and they should be bigger. We lost the pullets and sent them to the state for a necropsy. They found out they were actually hermaphrodites {sp?} both male and female inside. They noted that it would have been interesting to see what happened when they had reached breeding age. I don't think I would buy from a hatchery again after that. My dad liked them so we tried them. He wanted something unusual.

Mine came from Atwoods. Out of 3 lost 2. Still small at 5 months. Slow growers. Friendliest chicken we have. Absolutely loves us. She has overcome a lot. I look forward to when she grows up. Maybe then the others will quit picking on het
