How can I keep Miss Sally, our 18 week old Austealorp from laying her eggs inside the dog house? The first time it happened, we took the egg, and Sally and put them both in the nesting box. We've even put hardboiled eggs in there hoping she'd get the hint! Her sister Mable, picked up on the nest box right away, not Sally though! Any suggestions?

My MILs chicken will never lay anywhere but somewhere hidden in the 'shop' near her porch. She has my kids go and find it everyday, which is an adventure for them.

In her case, the other chickens pick on her... is that a factor?

Shut her in the coop for a few days. I have a golf ball in each of my nest boxes. Some times they like to try to hide the eggs and the golf ball in the nests.

I have 1 hen that just started laying on friday. Way way excited. The first one was very thin and I think she laid it from the shelf she sleeps on. Needless to say it broke. The 2nd came on Sunday. She maid a little nest in the corner with pine shavings. We have 3 nest boxes with hay in them. I watched her as she was getting ready to lay the 2nd one. She picked little shavings and would gather them around her and even put them on her back. It was just too cute to watch. So I took the hay out of one nest box and put shavings in there. Came home yesterday and she laid it in the box. I think the hay just wasn't soft enough for her. So maybe you can try putting some shavings in there for her.
