Sally's GF3 thread

Does anyone grow potato onions, aka, multiplier onions? These are NOT the same as Egyptian Walking Onions.

You plant a bulb in the fall, and get 5-8 the next end-of-summer.

Supposedly, they aren't supposed to flower. Mine never have. Until this year. Just about every single one is flowering. I was wondering if cutting off the flower would make a larger set of onions. So I cut some off.

Then I started reading from this site.
https://sites.google.com/site/kellysgarden/potato-onions
specifically this page:

I'm going to collect seed from the flowers and try growing them next year. Just for fun, and the who knows factor.

Another reason to leave the flowers: For the honeybees! I have some missed onions from last year that are flowering. Some of them are Red Baron, hubby's favorite.

I want to mention a really good book I just finished reading on my kindle.

It's
Taste: Surprising Stories and Science about Why Food Tastes Good

I learned a lot about taste and food in general when I read this. I want to get it in print, as there are some charts that are too hard to read on a kindle, and several things I'd like to come back to.

Her writing style is very accessible. The science is science-y without getting bogged down in details, and the stories are interesting and informative.

Thank you. I decided to get the Kindle edition, it was only $1.99. There are a bunch listed for sale on eBay for around $15. I can upgrade to paper if I like it well enough.

take snap shots of charts with your camera.
But... but... I'm old... I can't see them on my camera either.:gig

Yeah, I could download then to my computer, but then when my computer crashes...

:lau :lau

Maybe it's my eyes, but charts are way easier for me to see printed on paper. Maybe it the pixel-yness?

I don't read many print books anymore. That's because I do a lot of my reading while I workout on the elliptical, while I'm sitting in the chicken run, and when I'm in bed before I go to sleep. The kindle rocks for that.

Wow, I went through a lot of clothes today. I went out to the garden, worked, sweated, then came in and took a shower and a nap. I see the wisdom of the siesta...:yesss:

Got dressed, went out and worked some more. Not quite as sweaty. Changed my shirt, went to the store, came home, did a bit more work. Another shower, another set of clothes, but now I'm done for the day.

The laundry basket was only half full this morning. Looks like I'll need to do a load tomorrow for sure.

My pores must be really clean now. :gig

And toxins in your body are excreted in sweat, so you should be really healthy now!

I had an odd thought while I was in the shower.

You know how if you wash your dusty, dirty car with the hose, and spray with the hose on "Jet," back and forth, but don't use a sponge or cloth to rub/scrub the metal? And then it dries, and you can see where the spray went through the dirt, but there's still dirt there, just with tracks through it?

If I just stand under the shower and don't scrub my skin, are there tracks through the dirt/sweat on me? I haven't ever seen any. How about under a different light source? Does sweat look different under a black light?

Yeah, I was out in the heat and sun for too long, I know. :gig
