Sally's GF3 thread

From watching my step-dad build our house (literally) over our heads, I can see that 80-90% of building a house is logical, easy to grasp concepts. And muscling stuff around. It's the 10-20% that'll be the problem, most of the time.

That's true on a lot of endeavors. Gardening? Easy peasy. Put seeds in the dirt. Water them often enough. Protect from bugs, critters, and disease. Voila! Food or flowers!

Oh, you didn't know that beans planted by onions won't grow or produce well? Ah... yeah, that's not very obvious at all, is it? And yet, that's what can happen.

I've watched this guy's channel, and feel as if I could build my own cabin:
These remind me of the cabins I used to see boating the Pamlico River. Always made me want to see what they did inside. I miss doing those rides but chickens! lol

I think the most time consuming thing about building a cabin would be if you want it plumbed and wired. Everything needs to be "roughed in" at the right time.
I wired our barn. I wanted to hire my BIL. He owns his company and that's what they do. He talked me into to doing it. I was scared but with him available as my advisor I did most of it alone. Hubby was working long hours but helped me pull wire. It passed electrical inspection with no problems. I learned a lot! Later we plumbed it. We put in a galley style kitchen with a small gas stove, fridge, later an old washing machine. We put in a bathroom with toilet, sink and standup shower and of course a water heater. All the water lines are laid out so they can be drained it we are not heating the building in winter.

Now all this took a long time. Not weeks or months but was done slowly over years.

It needs some work on the outside. I don't know if I'm up to learning about attaching new siding. lol

Now if I could just get my adult daughter to get her boxes and stuff out of there......
