Salmon faverolle

Hello! We are so excited to be joining the world of backyard chicken keeping!! The chick I’m most excited about is our salmon faverolle. But… I’m getting a little concerned it’s a cockerel. Thoughts? It came from a farm supply store, so I assume a big hatchery; hoping it’s just an off color pullet. It’s between 2 and 3 weeks old.

A week later… I assume hope is lost now of this salmon faverolle being a pullet? Definitely seems like a cockerel.

Color seems off to me to even be a Salmon Faverolle. Those wings feathers are way too black. I'm no expert, could be wrong, but I'm suspicious! Too early for me to tell if it's a cockerel. See, I'm no help at all. . . . .

I'm going with cockerel for now, but as we all have seen, hatcheries do throw some weird pullets. Update once feathered!

Mine was that black, and ended up being a cockerel.

I am guessing a baby cockerel too. But you should update in a couple weeks so that we can all be sure!

The roosters are beautiful, but not allowed where I live. Fingers crossed!

Usually the darker colored ones are boys, so I think you have a young cockerel. Girls are lighter in color and that's why they are pretty easy to sex at just a few weeks old. Unless the quality is poor and the colors are off, I'd say you definitely have a boy!
