Salmon Oil for chickens?

I started giving my collie salmon oil and the result was a gorgeous coat on her, and also a fat collie so I had to cut back until she loses some weight. I was wondering if limited ammounts of salmon oil added to scratch grains or food could help improve quality of feathering?

Flax seed oil is more ecologically responsible.

I give ours a bit of flax seed a couple times a week mixed in with their yogurt...they love it!

Thanks, I will check out the flax seed oil. Don't want my eggs tasting like fish...

I use Cod Liver Oil, To me it is better than Flax Seed Oil.

Flax seeds will make your eggs taste bad too if given in excess- I assume the same is true for the oil:

this mentions flaxseeds but not flaxseed oil (flaxseed oil goes rancid so quickly that the health food stores keep it in the fridge)

I keep my flaxseeds in the fridge as well. Our 6 girls get perhaps a tablespoon a week among them I'm not sure how much it would take to affect the taste but this much hasn't
