Salmonella for Mt Healthy Hatchery

Called My Pet Chicken and they are VERY secretive about the fact that they use an outside Hatchery. When pressed they acknowledged they did and then I was put on hold. When the operator came back they said that they do not hatch at Mt Healthy...

People report MPC taking orders, but shipping was from Meyers in a Meyers box. ????? MPC isn't the only "order taker and drop shipper" company either, it's just that like Meyers themselves, they'll take small orders. Of course, the buyer pays a super high premium for the convenience. The cost per chick is pretty stiff, as I recall.

As for Mt Healthy and salmonella, ALL hatcheries battle this. The most recent outbreak was in Missouri and the hatchery there, (name escapes me). Estes, maybe?? BTW, salmonella is part of nature, it's pretty much everywhere and on almost everything. Like e-coli.

A hatchery that recently had an outbreak, gets all government inspected and sanitized and scrubbed is likely a pretty good source for chicks, frankly. Folks who have chicks need to remember to not allow kids to handle chicks and then suck their fingers or rub their eyes. Wash your hands.

Yes it was Estes but I'm certain they got it under control.

MPC got their chicks from Meyer......and sometimes if there is a straight run of a certain breed, sometimes you get it from certain breeders.
