Salmonella outbreak in backyard flocks .....

Do I have the wrong idea? I thought that salmonella will make the chicken itself sick. Wouldn’t you be able to tell that your flock was sick if it had salmonella in it? I always thought that grocery store eggs were sometimes contaminated because it is so hard to monitor individual chickens’ health in egg farms.

I buy most of my onions from local farms so there's no sticker.
Even most the ones(single vidalias) I buy at the store have no sticker.

I thought that salmonella will make the chicken itself sick.
They, and people, can carry a certain load of it and it won't make them sick.
Just like other organisms.
