Ok so I ran in to some old man an he told me to put a salt block out there with my chickens an he also said sweetfeed ? I've never herd of an suck thing but. If anybody can shEd some info about this please do thnxs

Horsefeathers!

He is confusing horses with chickens.

Sweetfeed contains molasses which chickens neither appreciate or utilize well.

Salt is definitelty not useful in block form and very limited otherwise.

Both will make them drink to much water. A lot of salt causes other problems.

If you feed a good quailty commerical feed it will have the salt in it needed to supplement what they need .. as far as the sweetfeed goes i know they will eat it as if you have cattle or horses and free range your flock they will go eat the grain under the feed troughs . but there is alot better source of feeds for getting grain supplement...

some old man an he told me

That's a terrible reason to do anything

I was also wondering about the Himalayan salt on a rope this old boy has peacock chickens ducks geese as well as I do an told me add a salt rope to my coop for them and on the other hand I found out he was wrong about cedar limbs an shavings he told me would be good for them and I was like no sir it is not you just been lucky but every experience raiser has told me it is bad for them and their breathing which explains why every spring he replenishes he flock bec his die suddenly or over period couple months and I can only think maybe too much cedar ? And they don’t have adequate water and shelter either.
