I have read in several posts and articles that say when feeding scraps and leftovers to not give salty foods.

When I have food that I've cooked I of course salt it. Are these articles talking about foods like potato chips? Is it safe to give them leftovers that have normal amounts of salt like in mashed potatoes?

I assume you are talking about baby chicks.
Stick to chick feed if you want optimal nutrition. Anything else dilutes the nutrients. I wouldn't give my chicks any cooked food, maybe an occasional taste of lettuce or fruit.

9 weeks old, okay they're pretty big now. I still don't give any of my chickens our cooked food scraps. I give them raw scraps, fruit peelings, veggies etc, at the end of the day after they've eaten a bunch of feed.

I believe that’s referring to foods like chips.. pretzels... things like that but at 9 weeks I don’t usually give my girls cooked leftovers. Usually just veggie scraps is what they love and wonderful and healthy treat they love is plain yogurt. They love it and it’s fun watching them eat it! If you do give them treats just be sure not much and wait till they’ve eaten their feed first

I am only giving things like tomatoes crushed up, cooked carrots, blackberries, boiled eggs and of course, yogurt. It's hilarious watching them with the yogurt. They LOVE that stuff and I like them having it too. Great for their guts. They also get the starter/grower and they go through that like mad as well. I'm just getting all the info. I need ahead of time so I don't make mistakes once they do start getting scraps.

I like to give them grape or regular tomatoes whole. I keeps them entertained trying to peck to the juicy center... at least for my older hens. I’ve never given them any table food so don’t know much about it and I guess I would be hard to since everyone cooks with different amounts of salt. One persons opinion of salt can be different then another’s. Like my father version of a little salt is my version of alot.

Do yours try to wipe their beak off on the ground after eating yogurt too? Or are mine just... well... special? It’s to cute cause they always come back for more

I gave my 2 month old bantams some leftovers of roasted potato with garlic and carrots, last week, they loved it and seem ok. I meant to rinse them first to remove excess salt but forgot. I try to avoid very salty foods, only giving leftovers very rarely. I have a garden so that's where I usually get them treats from.
Better to err on the side of caution in my opinion.
