OK, sorry but, picturing chicken on fence post noshing away at block.I use Himalayan blocks on a rope for my donkey and hang them over a fence post at head height for him, out of reach for the birds.

Actually, the chickens are fenced with wobbly wire fence they can't perch on between them and the donkey fence. So never been an issue. Not sure the donkey would share with them either.
That's a fact! Depends on what his mood is at the moment. He's generally pretty mellow, but he does have his moments. If a stray dog goes through he's pretty pissy the rest of the day!!You never know with donkeys...
