400

This is my 2 chickens and their friends that come visit everyday !
I love "chicken TV"

My little brown chick has not layed an egg , I was told she was 11 months old
But I think she is older. I got 3 from this guy that said they were from chicken house
In deployable conditions .. A raccoon ripped off the hinges and got one I mean he
Bent the hinges to get her I found the other dead in coop . And the 3 rd one does not lay eggs. I let them out in mornings and they come back before night! Abbie
My green egg layer is my very first chicken She rules the roost ! She's smart and taught the other chicks how to be a chicken . At least the ones that passed on to chicken heaven got to have their feet on the good earth and even got to fly a bit
And was treated with kindness good food even bought worms for them and hand fed them! Hey that may have been the wrong thing to do !!!!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Cute chickens, that turkey is sure showing off! If you just rescued the hen, stress like moving to a new home will often stop them from laying for a few weeks to a month or more, also poor care like she was getting in her old home will keep them from laying. If you have any questions about her health or how she looks you could post pictures or post in the Emergencies forum... did you give her a really good thorough physical exam and look for mites/lice etc? You might like to check out the BYC Learning Center, lots of good articles on all aspects of chicken keeping you'll find useful. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

So sorry to hear of your loss - raccoons are one of the worse predators, they are cunning, persistent, incredibly strong and have opposable thumbs - if you can open a lock so can they. Like other predators - if they scored a meal, they will keep coming back until there is nothing left UNLESS you get the coons first.

Please check out/post on the predator thread for the best ways to deal with them permanently.
