I will have 3 clutches of eggs shipped to me of the same breed.
When they hatch what can i mark them with so i keep some from each hatch for later breeding so i dont cross breed
.Do i need to separate each clutch totally to do that?
How do i tell whos who if they are born the same day and running around the incubator

Put your eggs in nylon zip bags for the lockdown - That will keep them separate! Wishing you much success

Not sure what kind of incubator you have so this may not work for you. I made several pedigree baskets: 1/2x1 inch welded wire boxes which I use to seperate different groups of eggs. Then, after hatching I toe punch chicks according to their group.

Like this idea!!.separate metal boxes..Whats toe punch? Sounds painful.
Could i do food coloring on there feathers/fuzz on one spot or would that hurt them or not work.?

My Mastiff Puppies look alike so I tie a diff colored ribbon on each of their necks to keep track of eating, weight, naming etc... but chicks legs?.... kind of small and they might eat it.

We always used nail polish to identify our pups. Coloured ribbons can come off &/or can get caught on things.
Toe punching is just what it sounds like. A small punch is used to punch holes in the web between toes. I believe it allows for 16 different punch combinations. The web doesn't seem to be particularly sensitive-doesn't seem to bother them much.

Sounds like a good idea about the polish I have only had one or 2 times that happened as they are changed once or less a week and ribbons I can see whos who at a glance.
The punch... it must be really tiny as their feet are so very tiny

Just realised that they will be 4 days apart so think it will be ok.I might just put them in different brooders after... but good to know for other chicks.Thanks.
