I think its very possible that a screw or a piece of plastic or something could have gotten into the yard. I find stuff like that all the time

people use to bury their trash and then we move in with animals and don't know this until heavy rains wash things up.

Pretty much everything on that list is dormant now. Mine really like wood in the fall and winter. Could they have found a piece of treated lumber to gnaw on?

depends on where you live if dormant or not.

I am sad for you and your ducks. I am sure the problem is environmental as it keeps happening. I would seriously consider keeping your ducks in a run rather than letting them free range. It will be far easier to ensure a run is clean, and safe from toxic matter.
