luvanimals: I would take all your chickens in a heart beat, but I would like to stay married........... My husband likes the chickens, too, but

enough is enough

KKH: You have some good points here. I really like our meetings with all the nice and interesting people and their poultry, but I also agree that a meet-up should be something very special as it is for me. On the other hand I am also noticing more and more new people at our meetings and even more people interested in coming to our future meetings.
Anyways, either way is fine with me, if I cannot attend a meeting due to work or other obligations, that would be sad for me, but most likely I would rather go to our traditional meet-ups than to a monthly club meeting.

My squirrels and bunnies and gophers are the finest in East county. I swear, between the feed and stealing from my garden and orchards, I think my yard represents the animal equivalent of Hometown Buffet. Grrrr. My husband has taken major evasive measures against the squirrels and gophers, he really doesn't have the heart to go after the bunnies. We just try to fence them out.

I too would rather do the just the traditional meet-up rather than a monthly meeting. I say we should do it once every three months, and like someone else suggested maybe a little more/ closer together during chick season and warmer weather. So if our last one was in February then maybe our next one should be the end of April or beginning of May?

I also like the idea of a "host" with one or two different people being "in charge" of their particular meet-up, so we have a little more order as to cleaning up and stuff.

I am cool with whatever you guys decide. I like the idea of having more meet ups during the "season" and then kind of curb it in the down time. I feel that it is a wonderful way to meet other like minded people. Since most of you know, I do not live in the area and I drive 2 hours to the meet ups which I do not mind at all but I doubt I would be able to make too many of the monthly meetings. Again, I can go with the flow.

Allison: How sad that they have to let their whole flock go. I hope someone can give them a good home.

Crazy Huhn: I doubt he will notice them.

It is only a few.

Well, I found an upside to the girls loving the mealworms. I had to go out to dinner and was in a rush. I open the coop and 2 ladies ran out before I could stop them. They took off for the garden and started scratching and playing. I have no problems catching them but I did not feel like running them down. I go into the house and grab my container and put mealworms in it. I shook the container and the ladies came running. I let them eat the worms and then I took them back to the coop. Easy Peasy.

I'd have like to have seen that!! That makes me want to let my girls out to free range.....I don't know if I dare to. My neighbor has chickens including little banties that she has free ranged for 15 years, never losing one to a predator. I can see her house from mine were that close. I was telling her how when I let my girls out a hawk appears in the tree within minutes. How do they know??? She says, "Well, they have eyes like a hawk you know."

So does anyone want to host the next meet up? I'd like to suggest April for sure as one of the meet up months, later in the month just because the weather is more predictable. What are your ideas? Anyone want to host the next one?

I'll host if it's within 30 minutes of Santee. Lake Murray would be easy for me to set up again or ???.
Whatever you guys decide I'm fine with. Depending on distance and how much gas I can afford, I'll do my best.
Maybe some of us could carpool if it's far.
